The Euro-Asian Kyukushinkai Championship 1998 in Russia.

The Euro-Asian Kyukushinkai Championship 1998 in Russia.

In may 1998 Shihan Liven was invited to Russia, as a chief referee and a guest of honor to the Euro-Asian Kyukushinkai Championships held in the beautiful town by the Black Sea, Novorossiysk. At the same time the Sho Shin Karate Do Russia Organization asked him to be the coach for their competitors. On this trip he took two of his strongest fighters with him: Ariel Mastof who short time before became the world heavyweight champion of the Kubokan full contact tournament in Tokyo Japan, for the 3'th year in a row. Ariel Mastof also is a Kyukushinkai national champion of heavyweight. The second fighter was Arman Raydler.

The Euro-Asian Kyukushinkai Championchip is a competition with fighters of a very high level. Specially the russian fighters are very tough and almost impossible to overcome. With his 65 kg Arman Raydler was the smallest competitor, but on his way to the final, he knocked down several opponents of more than 90 kg. In fact. almost all of the knock down victories in the competition, were delivered by Arman Raydler. In his first fight he met a Grusian fighter of 98 kg. They both started out easy. But it was obviously that the grusian thought that his little opponent was a piece of cake. he could eat with his hands tied on his back. They exchanged a few low kicks and some knocks to the stomach. Suddenly Arman exploded, five - six very strong low kicks, one right hand blow to the solar plexus and the big guy was down. Grusians never give up, so the fight went on, but in reality it was over and Arman won on points. Likewise he was fighting four times to get to the final. One fight he stopped by three low kicks, one step back and then to every bodies surprise, a spinning back kick that sends his 110 kg heavy opponent flying out from the tatami.- He did not come back. In the final he met a heavy clumsy Ukrainian, who climbed on him and held him tight to prevent him from doing anything. When Arman a few times got free, he managed to land some low kicks and hook punches under the ribs. The Ukrainian did not like that he returned a few blows and hit Arman with a strong punch to his throat. This made it difficult for Arman to breath and then he received more than he gave. In the end he lost with a few points and won a honorable 2. place. But the morally winner of the competition was with no doubt Arman Raydler. With his weight of 65 kg he was the smallest competitor and still the biggest fighter.

Ariel Mastof had to face some very strong fighters on his way. But just married and having his mind on his new house and family, he ended up with the 5. place. The biggest story among the competitors and arrangers of this year’s competition. was about the little fighter from Sho Shin Karate Do, who went into every fight with no fear and a great spirit, who beat up everybody who stand against him and ending the final only 3 seconds from the first place
